Nathalie Mikenberg discovered painting as a vital counter-balance to her analytically driven professional life, and as a way to navigate the emotional challenges of her divorce as a parent. During this time of upheaval and new beginnings, art became a means of self-healing – a space to let go, feel, and experience freedom. Her works are born from the interplay between reason and emotion: structures dissolve into color, and thoughts give way to intuition.

Born in Moscow, Nathalie moved to Germany at the age of eight – a formative change in life. This sense of departure and new beginnings is reflected in her art, which embraces the willingness to transcend boundaries and trust in the unknown. Between 2003 and 2008, Nathalie studied International Business & Communications at private universities in Dresden, Paris, Moscow, and Lille, earning three master’s degrees. She went on to work as an IT consultant and manager in top consultancy firms.

Nathalie works mainly in abstraction, experimenting with acrylics, soft and oil pastels, and natural materials like sand and marble dust. Her pieces are created through a lengthy, layered process – usually up to 40 to 60 layers – resulting in depth, complexity, and tactile richness. She deliberately explores contrasts between soft pastels and vibrant neon colors, light and shadow, reflecting both the bright and dark moments of her life. Her paintings express resilience, transformation, and inner balance, inviting viewers to discover their own emotions and stories within her work.

Nathalie will exhibit her art work at the Art Centre in Chongqing, China in March/April 2026.
